The Board of Control for Cricket in India's (BCCI) plan of implementing the Bronco test for the selection of players has grabbed the spotlight for over two weeks. The challenging test will see players pushing their cardiovascular limits. While the Bronco test is pretty new in cricket, it has long been associated with Rugby and high-intensity training drills. However, the BCCI's introduction of this new fitness test has so far received mixed reviews from fans and experts.

Recently, legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar spoke on the hot topic and shared his two-cents on the Bronco test, stating that selecting cricketers based on the new rule is pretty unfair.

"While it is fine to have these tests to get a general idea of where a player needs to strengthen their body, having them decide selection to the national team is a tad too much," Gavaskar wrote in his Sportstar column.
"Every person's body is different, so having one standard for everybody in the squad is well-nigh impossible. There has to be consideration given to the player's specialty and allowances made for that. For example, a wicketkeeper, who is constantly on the move the whole day, requires a different fitness level than the others," he added.

No test is bigger than a player dedicated to playing for his country: Gavaskar

The former Indian opening batter further stated that no test is bigger than the player giving his all to play for his country.

"The most important test for playing at the highest level for your country cannot be measured, as it's between the two ears. And the clincher for me is when the heart is opened, it should have only two words, 'Indian cricket', and nothing else."

Notably, India ODI skipper Rohit Sharma gave this new Bronco test on August 31, and impressed everyone with his brilliant performance. The report also mentioned that the right-hand batter also gave the Yo-Yo test and did well in that as well. Virat Kohli also gave his tests in London. The Bronco test's idea was first floated by head coach Gautam Gambhir and his coaching staff.
