England legend James Anderson is set to make his debut in The Hundred. He has been selected as a wildcard pick by the Manchester Originals. 

The 42-year-old fast bowler was selected during the wildcard draft on July 15. Anderson will become the second-oldest player in the tournament’s short history after Imran Tahir.

James Anderson recently ended an 11-year absence from the T20 format. He represented Lancashire in the T20 Blast 2025 where he has picked 14 wickets in eight matches at an economy of 7.76 so far.

Manchester Originals Sign James Anderson as Wildcard for The Hundred 2025

Anderson will be reunited with his former England teammate Jos Buttler, who leads the Manchester Originals. The squad also includes England Test pacer Josh Tongue and white-ball specialist Phil Salt. Overseas stars like Heinrich Klaasen, Noor Ahmad and Rachin Ravindra are also a part of Manchester Originals.

Anderson, who retired from international cricket as England’s highest wicket-taker, has expressed his interest in playing franchise leagues. 

Although he was included in the IPL 2025 mega auction, he did not make the final shortlist. 

Anderson has played 52 T20s in which he has claimed a total of 55 wickets. He featured in 19 T20Is for England and took 18 wickets. The pacer took 704 wickets in 188 Tests. He also enjoyed success in the 50-over format, finishing his career with 269 ODI wickets.
